Break in hours of operation

Spring Break 2025 Closure

The Learning Resource Center will be closed between Spring and Summer terms, 2025. We will be closed from April 19 to May 4, and resume normal hours of operation on May 5.

LRC Policy Guide

CONDUCT

The SCU Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides educational resources and services to support learning at SCU. The LRC creates and maintains a productive environment conducive to thought, learning and study for members of the academic community.

  • It is the responsibility of LRC users to contribute to this atmosphere and to respect the needs of other users. Unacceptable behavior includes but is not limited to the following:  Violation of SCUHS Academic Integrity Code, Student Code of Conduct, and Copyright Policy as articulated on the following pages:
  • Disruptive behavior that obstructs study
  • Improper use of public computers, which includes viewing internet content that a reasonable person would consider objectionable, violating the privacy of others, installing unauthorized software, and viewing material that violates federal, state, and local laws
  • Refusal to comply with instructions of LRC staff and campus officials

The LRC is committed to the safety of all users and takes seriously its obligation to manage disruptive behavior quickly and professionally. Please contact an LRC staff member if you need assistance. If necessary, they will call campus security.

Failure to comply with these policies may result in students being asked to leave the LRC. Repeated offenses can result in a permanent ban from the LRC.

LRC NOISE POLICY

  • The LRC is designated as a quiet space. Talking is allowed, but please keep voices down and be mindful of others who are quietly studying
  • Cell phones must be silenced or set to vibrate. All calls must be taken outside of the LRC
  • No amplified media is allowed. Headphones and earbuds must be worn when attending an online class or playing media

TESTING ROOMS

  • All rooms are designated for testing accommodations. Priority is given to students with testing accommodations
  • When available, rooms may be used for quiet study or attending classes online
  • As of January 6, 2025, study rooms will be limited to two occupants
  • Do not leave personal items unattended, as they will be handed over to Campus Safety. The LRC is not responsible for users' personal property. Users should never leave personal belongings unattended. The LRC is not liable for loss or damage to personal property
  • All testing rooms are monitored by camera for security purposes
  • Please check with the LRC Front Desk to confirm room availability for individual or group study
  • To reserve a room, please email SCUHSLibrary@scuhs.edu at least seven days prior to your exam with your reservation needs, date, time, class name, and testing instructions
  • LRC Staff may ask students to relinquish the room at any time to accommodate testing needs

ACCEPTABLE USE OF LIBRARY MATERIALS

  • Students must create a library account to check out materials
  •  Reserve books, models, electronic chargers, and other materials are available for use for two hours and may not leave the LRC.
  • Damage to library materials, or failure to return library materials on the due date, may result in fines or holds placed on registration, graduation, or release of transcripts

BULLETIN BOARDS

  • LRC bulletin boards are for postings that promote events and programs targeted toward the SCUHS community. Irvine law school community. University students, faculty, staff, clubs, and departments may post printed materials on these bulletin boards with the approval of Student Services and/or the director of the LRC. Please submit requests to studentservices@scuhs.edu and/or joshuashulman@scuhs.edu  
  • All postings must adhere to university policies and clearly include the name of the sponsoring person or organization
  • Postings may not violate federal, state, local laws or policies regulating or related to unprotected speech, including but not limited to unlawful targeted harassment
  • Postings that refer to a specific event or date must be removed by the sponsoring individual or organization within 48 hours after the event or program
  • Posting with glue is expressly prohibited
  • Only one poster or flyer per event per posting area is allowed. No printed materials may exceed 8.5x11 inches
  • Posters may be removed at the discretion of SCUHS staff at any time

FOOD AND DRINK POLICIES

  • Food and drink may be brought into the LRC from the outside within reason. Covered and bottled drinks and food are allowed. However, all food waste, food wrappers, and disposable plates and cutlery must be thrown away in the bins outside the LRC
  • Users will not be allowed to accept food deliveries, such as pizza or fast food, or consume them within the library buildings

SMOKING

  • Smoking is prohibited inside and outside the LRC. Per SCUHS policy:
    • To promote health and protect the welfare of all individuals associated with the University, smoking will be prohibited inside and outside all University-owned and -operated facilities. This includes all University clinics, health centers, offices, restrooms, educational rooms, laboratories, auditoriums, parking lots, and outside sports facilities.  In order to protect the health of all those on campus who do not smoke, smoking is prohibited outside of all University facilities, except for posted designated smoking areas.

ANIMALS

  • Animals are not permitted in the LRC. The exception to this rule is service dogs used by disabled persons. Per the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990:
    • Only dogs are recognized as service animals under Titles II and III of the ADA. A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Generally, Title II and Title III entities must permit service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas where members of the public are allowed to go.
